Do Americans Use Electric Kettles To Heat Water?
There is an old-held belief that Americans do not use electric kettles to heat water in their kitchens and are staunch devotees to the traditional stovetop whistling kettle.
Despite articles in popular magazines and webpages suggesting examples, this is a myth, so let’s dispel it. Here’s an easy way to heat water without using a stove.
Electric Kettle Ownership In The USA
Just cursory glance on any major online shopping platform will show that electric kettles are hot items that are selling briskly all over the USA. We buy & use electric kettles here in the U.S. like never before. Hot water solutions are totally on our radar.
True, we are big coffee drinkers and we are more likely to have a good quality coffee pod machine in our kitchens than a fancy electric kettle. Nevertheless, many of us enjoy pour-over coffee or plunger style coffee and have an electric kettle or a variable temperature kettle for that very purpose.
Also, tea drinking of all varieties is on the increase, not standard British-style tea drinking, but green and herbal teas. The health benefits of green and herbal teas have been well known for many years now and many of us use an electric kettle or a variable temperature kettle for this purpose.
Debunking The 120 Volts Myth
The story that goes around about our domestic 120 volts power grid not having enough power to boil a kettle quickly is simply ludicrous. It’s the same 120 volts powering our electric stovetops as an electric kettle! Furthermore, modern electric kettles are efficient and well designed and are more than up to the job to heat water, maybe even more quickly than a stovetop too.
